Authorities in Florence County report that several Myrtle Beach teenagers are facing charges after a late-night altercation in Johnsonville resulted in the death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright on June 24, 2025. Officials stated that nine individuals are currently linked to the case, with one more expected to surrender in the coming days.
Investigators allege the teens acted collectively and are being treated as accomplices under South Carolina law. Among those identified is 19-year-old Devan R., who was arrested the day following the incident. Others involved, ranging in age from 17 to 18, have either been released on bond or remain in custody awaiting upcoming court appearances.
Authorities have withheld details regarding four additional suspects, including juveniles. Wright is remembered by his loved ones as a bright, kind-hearted student at Johnsonville High School, where he participated in both football and baseball. His life was honored with a celebration on July 3, and a community fundraiser gathered more than $6,000 to assist with final expenses.
Sheriff TJ Joye described the tragedy as “senseless,” explaining that the conflict stemmed from personal issues. Wright’s family and friends continue to grieve, remembering him as someone who “brought laughter and light to everyone around him.”
