Our female husky was nearing the end of her pregnancy, and when her due date arrived, everything seemed to begin normally. Labor started smoothly until suddenly, it didn’t. One of the water sacs passed, but a puppy became lodged in the birth canal, and we noticed there was no movement. From that moment on, our only concern was keeping the mom alive.
We spent 6 exhausting hours trying to assist her, but with no success. Finally, we rushed her to a 24-hour emergency vet clinic, where they performed an X-ray. The results showed two puppies still inside, but heartbreakingly, there were no signs of a heartbeat. The vet team explained the situation, and we agreed the priority now was to save the mother.
About an hour later, as we waited nervously, the vet suddenly burst into the room smiling. To our shock, both puppies had survived. We were speechless. To give some context: when a puppy is stuck in the birth canal without its sac for over two hours, the chances of survival are almost zero. In our case, the first puppy had been stuck for over eight hours. But you’d never guess it now he’s healthy and thriving.
No one at the clinic could believe it. In fact, the first puppy was initially set aside as everyone assumed he hadn’t made it. But just as they were working to deliver the second one, a tech noticed the first puppy breathing. It was nothing short of a miracle. Mom and both babies made a full recovery. We named them Lazarus and Romero because they truly beat the odds.
